Since its opening 18 months ago, the China-Laos railway has made 16.4 million passenger trips and delivered 21 million tons of goods
As of June 3rd, the China-Laos Railway has made a total of 16.4 million passenger trips and delivered 21 million tons of goods, during which period its transport safety has remained stable. As a golden logistics channel, the China-Laos Railway has gained increasing prominence in facilitating travel and trade contacts between the two countries.
Since December 3rd, 2021, when the China-Laos Railway entered into service, railway departments in both China and Laos have gone to all lengths to maintain and operate this line, aiming at building a high-standard and sustainable railway. They have achieved continuous freight volume growth, significantly improved service, and increased radiation effects, all of which turn the railway into a road of development, a road of happiness, and a road of friendship for the two people. On April 13th this year, international passenger trains in both directions between Kunmingnan Railway Station and Vientiane Station began operation on the China-Laos Railway, which shortened the travel time between Kunming and Vientiane to within a day. The China-Laos Railway international passenger trains have made over 20,000 cross-border passenger trips, serving passengers from 28 countries.
The China-Laos Railway opens a convenient international logistics channel between China and ASEAN countries. The railway department enhances freight transport organization, proceeds with the branding of the Lancang-Mekong Express, and explores new modes of railway international intermodal transport such as “China-Laos Railway plus CRE” and “China-Laos Railway plus New International Land-Sea Corridor Trains”. It energetically implements faster customs clearance and transit to shorten cargo clearance times, enables the Designated Regulatory Site for Imported Fruits at Mohan Railway Port to fulfill its role, operates cold-chain trains to deliver quality fruit from ASEAN countries like Laos and Thailand, and has transported 23,000 tons of import fruit.
In 18 months, the China-Laos Railway has effectively promoted regional connectivity and mutual benefits, injecting a strong impetus to the high-standard economic and social development along the route. To date, 25 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities have started to operate cross-border freight trains on the China-Laos Railway, covering countries and regions of the Belt and Road Initiative, such as Laos, Thailand, and Myanmar, with cargo categories expanding from 10 kinds at the beginning, including fertilizers and department stores, to more than 2,000 kinds, including electronic products and cold-chain fruits. A stable and efficient channel is thus formed.
